What can I say about Arch Linux..

Arch Linux is an independently developed, lightweight, and highly customizable Linux distribution. It is designed for experienced users who prefer complete control over their system. Instead of pre-installing a desktop environment or extra software, Arch provides a minimal base that users manually build and configure from the ground up.

Key Features

  • Rolling Release: You install Arch once and continuously update it. Instead of waiting for major version upgrades (like you do with Ubuntu or Fedora), you receive the newest software and security patches as soon as the original developers release them.

  • Pacman Package Manager: Arch uses its own fast, powerful package manager (pacman) to handle installations, removals, and dependency tracking.

  • The Arch User Repository (AUR): This is a massive community-driven repository. If a piece of software isn't in the official repositories, the AUR almost certainly has it, allowing you to install obscure or specialized tools easily.

  • The Arch Way (KISS): Arch adheres to the "Keep It Simple, Stupid" (KISS) principle, meaning it avoids unnecessary visual clutter, automatic background configurations, and corporate modifications. The system is built exactly how you want it, with no bloatware.

Who is it for?

Arch Linux is beloved by developers, hackers, and power users because it strips away all the "training wheels" of mainstream operating systems. Because the user must hand-pick everything—from the file system to the window manager—there is a steep learning curve. However, it is an incredibly rewarding system to learn, and the comprehensive Arch Wiki provides some of the best Linux documentation available.

Why I use Arch Linux

Arch Linux has been an interest of mine going back to the earliest days of my career. It was always a testy install, but I've gotten used to it. I've found it to be a very basic OS screaming for customization right out of the box. And with pacman as a package manager and very well supported packages available, have found there is nothing I can't do with Arch Linux.

Lightweight, very fast, stable, clean, lean, installs on anything; all the software I use is available and ready to install. Anything that I want that is not, I can get open source and compile. I am a programmer you know.
